After some fits and starts and throwbacks to winter, I feel that spring has truly arrived. For one thing, the weeds are growing so fast I can barely keep them pulled! For another, I’m gearing up to model in a fashion show.
Oh fun! What are we wearing?
Four elegant dresses, Lily, some of them custom made, and this intriguing smock that suggests both a Parisian artist (especially when accessorized with a red beret) and prison stripes.
Everything in the show is from the collection of Geraine Hansen. She and her husband traveled to dozens of countries over many winters with a group of wheat farmers, to learn about agricultural methods in other countries and experience new cultures. Geraine is now 101 years old. Her daughter, Cheryl, is curating the collection for the show, featuring 40-plus examples of couture, predominately from the 1960s and 70s. The story behind each piece will be revealed by a fashion-savvy MC as models glide down the runway.
Geraine wore this dress when their group visited Washington D. C. She had a photo op with Secretary of Agriculture William Butz, who served during the Nixon and Ford administrations:
Boo on Nixon! What about mini skirts?
Good question, 9! Some of the models will wear mini dresses that take me back to your place in time.
The show, called “The Way We Were,” is a fundraiser for PEO Chapter CN. PEO is an organization founded in 1869 by seven women who attended Iowa Wesleyan University. The organization supports education for women through scholarship and loan programs for both academic and vocational studies.
But I digress. Here’s one of the custom-made pieces I’m modeling:
I love the color!
And the coat is reversible, with pockets on both sides, no less!
Incredible time and effort are behind this event, far beyond the clothes and the models. Booking the venue, decorations, refreshments, selling and checking in tickets, coordinating music for each outfit and so much more. The show takes place at the Walla Walla Country Club, Saturday May 3, 2-4 PM (doors open at 1:30).

If you’re looking for a fun time in support of a wonderful cause, this is the event for you!
I’ll be there!
Me too!
Fantastic, because there’s no way I could be at my 1960s and 70s modeling best without the two of you.
Someone must take a video of such an extravagant event. With your posture you seem like the perfect model…..
I do my best! Last time I modeled some of this collection they did a Facetime streaming or something like that. I’ll inquire if that’s on for the May 3 show, too. . .
